Itai Weissman's "Band of DJs" is a project which focuses its compositions and performance skills on the EWI. The EWI (Electric Wind Instrument) has been around since the 1970's and had growing popularity with Jazz musicians such as Michael Brecker (Steps ahead),Tom scott , Nyle Steiner and more. For the last 20 years this instrument has been forgotten as it was tagged by musicians as Weissman's vision started around 10 years ago when he came across this instrument as he was seeking and answer to his ever growing urge to play different sounds and texture then his acoustical instruments. Being influenced mainly by keyboarders ,Weissman was looking deeper and deeper not only to the sound but also the language most musicians were expanding and practicing during the arrival of the synthesizers in the mid 70's till late 80's.The project's name arrives from a small joke as the soloist on stage is busy moving and tweaking knobs through out the performance creating an impression of a DJ busy with his turntables. The music itself through composed but has enough freedom for improvisation.
